Yeah... Our Forester needs a new main bearing, so we're trying to sell that and keep the miles off so that it doesn't seize up. Well this week our Impreza started sounding like a cow in labor, a screaming child, and someone throwing marbles in a blender. And now it won't start. A guy at work is a mechanic in his second job and thinks that coolant found its way into the cat and is causing a giant blockage. This car has already had the head gaskets replaced 3x (once by me) and I did see white smoke out the back the other day but just attributed it to the cold weather.

How many ways can you say "I'm screwed"?

Again, I'm never buying a Subaru.

arent you in new england? I have a friend with an 01 forester with the head gaskets just replaced, runs and drives like a boss. Needs 2 small holes in the fender fixed for a sticker. He wants $500 for it, 150K. If you want it I will drive it to you

Yeah a lot of people have problems with them.

I'd recommend you get a custom ecu mapping if you are keeping the impreza and checking your fuel system / replacing fp / injectors, rails. SUBARU TUNING IS NOT SAFE FROM THE FACTORY, you will just repeat the same mistake over and over. At the very least you also may be able to log and determine where your problem is via the tuner. Also don't buy regular hg. I'm sure you have replaced timing components and have verified they are working correctly. Also the sensor for the cam should be checked.

Anyways these cars can be very reliable imo having had 8 between family members ranging from 2.2, 2.0, 2.5 in diff forms.

I just picked up an 01 Forester with a 5 speed for 650 bucks, owner swore up and down it was fine. Needs new headgaskets, sitting in my garage. I.. might have gone shopping and bought some other stuff to. little things.

Totally not a complete Subaru WRX for some sort of ill advised swap @ 800 dollars. Nope. Nothing dumb going on over here...
